  • Diamond Catalog

- suggests starting with a keyword search - combined keyword searches . . . ex. "Keats AND Romanticism" - 43 results - when looking at a particular item, check out the subject listings to find additional resources on those topic areas - plan to have a variety of keywords . . . ex. "John Keats AND Romanticism" 33 items ex. "John Keats" AND romanticism -- 5 results -- Romantic* in a keyword search brings back keywords including both "romantic" and "romanticism," etc.

  • EZ Borrow

- system that lets you request books online from nearby schools

  • Article Databases

- 50 databases for literature - Concentrating on two today (MLA and Literature Online) . . . to find others, search Database Listings by subject

  • Literature Online

-- broad database -- primary and secondary sources -- good all-around database -- can look for indiv. authors, keyword searches, look for indiv. texts -- Primary text

    • search within texts . . . ex. searching Keats' work for the term "urn"

-- articles: can print out, save to list, email to self -- can email full text -- can send notes along with it -- Criticism and Reference link

    • can click on "reference" link for various options -- can search specific reference works
    • ex. Researching "The Tempest"
    • can check specific sections like Criticism
    • ex. Caliban and postcolonial
      • SparkNotes type of things
        • Go to Complete Contents
        • @ bottom -- KnowledgeNotes Student Guides (230 works listed)
  • MLA Bibliography

-- primarily a citation database -- place to go to find out who has been writing about a text -- often, articles are not available online through it -- can do basic title/author search -- more advanced searches

    • can search by literary period, genre
    • select SA Primary Subject Author -- Shakespeare -- The Tempest
    • 1200 articles . . . look at subject terms in yellow bar -- options to try in future searches
    • no summaries -- so, on individual article listings, pay attention to subject listings in yellow in order to find out what subjects the article covers
      • can email citations. can choose format of citation for easy plug-in into MLA format
      • if you can't find the citation, print out citation or email it to yourself
        • go back to library's home page
        • find out whether the article is in another database in library
          • or whether library has print version
          • click on "Journal Finder" link
            • searching not for individual article title, but for journal title.
            • if not available in library or online, you can use Interlibrary Loan to get articles from other schools
            • can request as many articles as you want. Can receive articles by email
            • library home page -- click "interlibrary loan requests"
            • Don't be afraid to use this service -- take advantage of it -- "no reason why you shouldn't be able to get an article that you want"
